Luke McCrohon, the Engoo CTO at the time, proposed a series of UX challenges to students regarding the Engoo English tuition platform. Of these challenges, I chose to redesign the Engoo lesson booking system to enable learners to 'batch book' their lessons – which was not a present capability.
The problem
An insight acquired from Luke, which brought the lack of multi-bookings to my attention, was an example of a student who booked three consecutive sessions every day, for 18 months. Considering how regularly this student was having lessons, it struck me how inefficient it would have been for them to go through the booking process 3 times a day, every day for those 18 months.
This student would have had to book in advance to secure three consecutive slots with their desired tutor and inevitably suffered disappointment due to fluctuations in tutor availability each time the student booked. Despite this student being an outlier of sorts, whose habits are likely not representative of most learners on the platform, it is a clear example of a student who would benefit from the ability to book multiple lessons in one go.
Additionally, tutors may experience stress associated with a constantly changing schedule, last-minute bookings and a potential lack of consistent work.
