Designing an eCommerce experience for the purchase of a fully customisable body support

Flexosis is a body support customisation system, utilising the power of internet-facilitated additive manufacturing technologies for made-to-order refurbishment of one’s existing desk chair.
In sustainability efforts to contribute to a circular economy transition, Flexosis seeks to reduce furniture waste via reuse of the consumer’s existing desk or office chair base and seat, currently with self-disassembly by the consumer but with home visits as an option in future - if deemed a necessary supplementary service.
The target market, while not fully validated by user research at this early stage, is students of the Y and Z generational cohorts - tending to work long hours during their studies. Flexosis’s tagline ‘by students, for students’ summarises its relatable, modernised and simplistic approach, with a colloquial tone of voice in business communications and site language.
While Flexosis was conceived due to a noticeable lack of customised back support for those with common spinal conditions such as scoliosis, lordosis and kyphosis, the premise of this system caters to all. Those suffering from any type, or severity, of spinal deformity (such as those aforementioned) or any relevant surgery affecting back or posture (including, but not limited to, a spinal fusion, disk replacement, laminectomy or discectomy) are strongly recommended to consult their orthopaedic specialist, physician or physiotherapist for assistance with scanning and purchase decisions for assurance of optimal support.
